Coastal Flood Monitoring Meetup

March 10 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

We know that the sea level is rising, but what does that actually look like in Portland?

Through a partnership with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), Portland Trails is hosting a Coastal Flood Monitoring event to answer that question. On March 11th, come observe the astronomical high tide on the Eastern Prom Trail! We'll collect data for GMRI's statewide database in order to help experts better predict the effects of future sea level rise, coastal flooding, and storm surges. Sign up today!

Things to know:

  • We'll meet here, at a spot along the trail known as Fish Point. The closest trail entry point (and parking, if you're driving) is Fort Allen Park. There are steps that connect to the Eastern Prom Trail below. From there, it's a short walk to the meeting spot!
  • This event will be held rain, snow, or shine, so dress for the conditions! Wear weather-appropriate and waterproof shoes that you can walk short distances in.
  • If there is severe weather that's unsafe for participants, we will cancel the event and notify all registrants by email.
  • Participants will submit their observations/data using their phones. Please make an account on GMRI's website before the event. Click here to create a username and password. If you're unable to use your phone, paper data sheets will be available.

See you there!
